Biography

Michael (Mike) P. Stramaglia

Mike is a professional corporate director and President and founder of Matrisc Advisory Group Inc., a risk management consulting company. He served as Co-Interim President and CEO of Foresters Financial™ from July 2017 to January 2018.

He currently serves on the boards of the Equitable Bank Group and the Economical Mutual Insurance Group. He also currently serves as Chair of the Ontario Internal Audit Committee.

Mike has over thirty years of financial services experience, including over ten years with Sun Life Financial, where he held various executive positions including global Chief Risk Officer and Executive Vice-President, Investments. He joined Sun Life Financial in 2002, following its acquisition of Clarica, where he was Executive Vice-President and Chief Investment Officer and head of the International Reinsurance Business.

Prior to joining Clarica, Michael worked for over 13 years with the Canadian operations of the Zurich Financial Services Group, where he held a number of senior executive positions including Chief Actuary, CFO, Chief Operating Officer and, ultimately, President and CEO of the Zurich Life Insurance Company of Canada.

Mike is a qualified actuary and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. He maintains a keen interest in advancing industry best practices, including through his current appointments as Executive in Residence at the Global Risk Institute. He holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics Degree from the University of Waterloo.

Mike has been a member of the Foresters Board since 2013; he currently serves on the Board’s Risk and Investment and Audit and Compliance Committees.
